Excellent Guzheng Music and Performance Education for Guzheng Lovers of All Ages and Levels

Founded in 2006 by world-renown artist Bei Bei Monter, Lotus Bud Guzheng Academy offers private and group lessons in Irvine, CA. Online lessons are offered to students around world.

Students of all ages and levels are welcome. 

Lessons are available in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. 

Student recitals are held annually. Community performance opportunities are given year round. Preparation for grade exam and merit exams as well as competitions are offered to fulfill individual student’s goals.

About our director

Bei Bei Monter

Bei Bei (Beibei Monter) 荷蓓蓓 is one of world’s premier Guzheng (traditional Chinese string instrument) musicians. She was born in Chengdu, China and trained at China Central Universities of Nationalities in Beijing and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under several Guzheng masters. Studied Jazz and Improvisation at Fullerton College, California, Bei Bei roots her art in Classical Music and expands into other styles, combining new with old into creative new expressions, specially in her collaborations with musicians from different genres such as funk, jazz, electronica, and Hip-Hop.

As a recording artist, her performances were featured on the 2020 Disney’s “Mulan” live action film, Sci-fi Channel’s“Battlestar Galactica”, award-winning video game “Revelation”, and most recently, the brand new Universal Studios Beijing theme park.  She and her music were included in the American college textbook World Music by Michael Bakan. In 2015, she was featured as one of  “The Most Fascinating People of Los Angeles” by LA Weekly Magazine. 

As a composer, Bei Bei has over 60 registered compositions, including songs in the “Into The Wind” and “Year of The Funky” album, which she collaborated with UK producer Shawn Lee.  Recently, she co-composed with Adam Giberti “Rhapsody Of Water and Fire” for Guzheng and symphony orchestra. Bei Bei has released four albums, and was featured in many artists’ songs such as “Loyal Brave True” by Christina Aguilera as well as “Yue Dao Tian Xin Chu” by Summer Jike Junyi.  

As an educator,  she is the founder and director at “Lotus Bud Guzheng Academy” in Irvine, California. She has published three English books – “Guzheng Sessions Vol. 1 & 2” and “Bei Bei’s Easiest Guzheng Course” to teach students how to play the Guzheng. 

Bei Bei’s live performance projects include The Bei Bei Ensemble – a contemporary fusion band, Vivid China Ensemble – a traditional Chinese music ensemble, as well as a fusion duo with guitarist Jon Monter. She has performed through out the U.S and Canada, and toured to Hong Kong, India, the U.K. and Italy. She was also featured as a guest soloist performing with UC Irvine Symphony orchestra, UCLA Game Music Ensemble and the Pacific Symphony. She has worked with world-renowned conductors such as Carl St. Clair and Steven Tucker.

As of December 2020, Bei Bei’s multiple performance videos on Youtube have been viewed eleven million times in total. Her music are enjoyed and loved by audiences worldwide.
